Boy do we need the rain in the
northwoods of Wisconsin! And as I
am writing this, we are getting a
little bit of it. I know, be careful
what you wish for, but we sure
could use a two day soaker.
Our summer tourist season is
shaping up nicely. In fact, our
admissions are up a little over last
year. I suppose people are just getting
use to $3 plus for a gallon of
gas. Conventional wisdom tells me
that Americans are going to take
their week or two vacations no
matter what.
Speaking of museum operations,
we are well underway on our
several year project to update and
repaint our “Big Musky” and eight
garden fish sculptures. To date, we
have completed the work on five of
the small sculptures. Additionally,
we have done quite a bit of cement
work on our pool beneath the “Big
Musky.” I have estimated that all
these projects will total over $60K.
To date, we have raised about
$11K. I would like to personally
thank all those who have contributed
to these projects. “Thank
you!”
Right now, the staff and I are
busy preparing for our annual
Awards Committee meeting. This
year it will be held in Hayward on
August 21st. There is still time to
submit your nomination for a worthy
person or organization. The categories
are: Enshrinement; Legendary
Angler; Legendary Guide;
Legendary Communicator and Organizational.
Just go to our website
at www.freshwater-fishing.org
and click on the icon in the upper
left hand corner of our homepage.
The criteria for enshrinement/induction
is explained and the form
can be completed and sent electronically
in about 10 minutes.
Then after you do that, grab
your rod and reel and go fishing.
We recognize over 200 species of
fresh water fish and we have over
3000 entries in our world record
book. There may very well be a
record with your name on it waiting
to be caught. Please take a
child with you!
